Sebastien Poirier is a French professional Show Jumper based at Norwood Farm in Cobham, Surrey. Sebastien was born in 1979 in Paris and moved to Brittany when he was 4 years old and started riding at the age of 10, at a local riding school.
He first started competing at 12 years of age on a pony that he had broken in himself. At 16 he took an equine competition apprenticeship based with a showjumping horse dealer. Sebastien rode 12 horses a day, groomed at home, at competitions, competed and showed horses off to potential clients.
In 1997 Sebastien went to Ireland where he worked for International Showjumper Tom Slattery. Upon returning to his native France Sebastien became manager at a Showjumping Stud, where he produced young horses for sale and competition whilst also running their breeding program.
In 2001 Sebastien went on to work in two of the largest Stud farms in France: Haras de Reverdy and Haras de Vulsain as a competition rider. Sebastien was then snapped up for training by the French Olympic Bronze Medal Winner and World Cup finalist Show Jumper Herve Godignon. This was an opportunity for Sebastien to train with some of the best French show jumping horses and experience show jumping at top international level.
In 2006, inspired by this experience Sebastien set out on his own and founded Norwood Farm - a competition yard in Cobham, Surrey.
Sebastien has ridden in France competing at Grand Prix level jumping up to 1m40 and currently has a range of horses that he competes on the national circuit.
